KEYBOARD PLAYERS – MEMORIZE ALL THE MAIN CHORDS BY MIRACLE METHOD IN 5 MINUTES!

1. MAJOR CHORDS: This is the most common chord. So much so that in symbol form, only the note name is used. It is not customary to affix the symbol “maj”. Hence, for instance, if you see the symbol “C” – it means the chord of C Major, or if you see the symbol Eb it similarly means the chord of E flat major and so forth.

To find ANY major chord: Just remember the formula 5  0  4.

EXPLANATION:  0 is the note itself, simply count down 5 semitones for the lower note and count up 4 semitones for the higher note. This gives you a chord of three notes the major chord. EXAMPLE: F major... place a finger on the note F and with the other hand count down via E, Eb, D, Db, C. C therefore is your lower note. Now count up from F... Gb, G, Ab, A. "A" therefore is your higher note. You now have the 3 notes C, F, A. This is the chord of F major. IMPORTANT: This formula 5  0  4 finds you the major chord ON ANY NOTE. NOTHING ELSE TO LEARN! IT WORKS FOR ANY KEY.

2.    MINOR CHORDS: To find any minor chord: If you see the symbol “m” it means minor. Hence, for example, Gm, Bbm, Am are all minor. Here you remember the formula 5  0  3. IT WORKS FOR ANY NOTE – ANY KEY – OF COURSE.Example: Cm has the notes G, C, Eb.

3. 7th CHORDS: To find any seventh chord: If you see the symbol “7” it means seventh. Hence, for example “D7”, “Db7”, “C7” are all seventh chords. Unlike the major and minor chords which each have only three notes THE SEVENTH CHORD HAS FOUR NOTES. Here you just remember the formula: 0  4  7  10.
As our 0 is first, this time all our counting is in an upward direction. 0 is the note itself, then go up four semitones for the next note. Continue counting up seven semitones for the next note, and finally continue up to ten semitones from the original to gain your highest note.

EXAMPLE: C7….. C is 0, then count up via Db, D, Eb, E.

E therefore is our second note. Then continue upwards via F, Gb, G. G therefore is our third note. Then continue upwards via Ab, A, Bb. B flat therefore is our fourth note. Hence: C7 contains the notes: C, E, G, Bb.
AND AS BEFORE IT WORKS: ALL NOTES (ALL KEYS).

4. If you can remember the three above formulae, i.e: 5  0  4 to find any major chord, 5  0  3 to find any minor chord, 0  4  7  10 to find any 7th chord, THEN, (as there are twelve different notes in music) YOU HAVE MEMORIZED 36 CHORDS ALREADY! – IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!!

5. It is possible to harmonize most tunes with one or other of these chords and you need to go no further if you are content to keep to a simple style of playing the tune in the right hand and by a process of trial and error finding out which one of the above chords in any given place sound best in the left hand. You may choose to stay with this useful but elementary approach, or perhaps become really “something else”?  read on.....
